Here's what I got on Matthew Lansing

(look at that smile)
He's a center; 6'1 2007 baby; from Tonawanda, New York

In the past 2 years he's jumped around teams just a little bit. Going from the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in the OHJL to the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL in the 23/24 season then was traded to Fargo Force in Feb 2025. He was also added to the USA U18 team this past season! Another fun fact is that he was actually selected by the Erie Otters in 2023 but chose to go the USHL route.

Let's just say he had a crazy past season. Starting with the USA team, at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup he scored 4 goals in the 5 games he played. It was a strong performance that caused many eyes to be on him. He was noted to be "not the strongest player" but someone that had an effect. However in the IIHF U18 World Championship, Matthew scored 0 points after all 7 games. This can be marked down at the fact that he was on a fourth line with very minimal minutes per game.

In between his Team USA stints, he started his season by playing with the Waterloo Black Hawks before being traded to the Fargo Force in February of this year (2025). His time at Waterloo was not... the best. Ending with a total of 17 points with the 40 games he played. However it was noted by scouts that his wingers often were failing him. He was bottom 6, usually on the fourth line, with wingers that were seen to constantly not finish his passes or shots.

After his trade to Fargo, there seemed to be a new opportunity and it was taken. Just after 14 games, he ended with 10 points (4 goals and 6 assists) which was a clear difference than his time with the Black Hawks. He was also gaining more minutes on the ice in a top-line role which was noted to have boosted his perfomance and production overall.

So in terms of his play, what the hell is he great at? Well, a little bit of everything. He generally had a new role in each team and tournament he played at this past season, doing his best in all of them. His first year with Team USA has made many take focus on him and his time with Fargo has made them optimistic for his future. He's mostly noted at being weaker with his skating and physicality, but he's also shown he's a great play maker and does his best with what he's given. As a two-way center, there's a lot to look out for with him.

As of right now, Matthew is committed to Quinnipiac University of the NCAA for the 25/26 season so I'm sure he'll thrive as a player. Besides, just look at that smile. What isn't there to love?

Many are excited to see how he continues to develop as a player, especially after his steady incline after being traded to Fargo. With Todd Harvey, the Director of Amature Scouting for the Vancouver Canucks saying “When you see guys take steps in their game at the right time and start pushing, it is almost like the light goes off and they figure it out. And it’s really good to see guys take steps like that throughout the season,".
